The 5 Things You Need To Ask Your Dermatologist
If you are considering seeing a doctor for your acne skin
condition, you will find that you will have many to chose from.
There are no shortage of dermatologists. In order to
find the right dermatologist for you. it is important to
know certain things to insure that you have the right
fit.
It is true that among most dermatologists the school of
thought in regards to treatment does not vary widely. But to be
sure, you will find differences among them. Many dermatologists
like to focus on more holistic methods of treatment such as
diet and nutrition, while others are more focused on
pharmacological treatments.
It is up to you to decide which acne treatment is
best for you.
Although your doctor will have his or her opinion, the
choice is ultimately yours. With that said, here are five
things that you should ask any potential dermatologist when you
are considering them as your doctor.
1) Are you more focused on holistic treatments, medications
or both.
You want to know right away which school of thought he
subscribes to. If you are a person who is uncomfortable with
the long term use of prescription drugs such as antibiotics,
then a doctor who will use this as his main course of treatment
is not right for you.
If you find a doctor who will likely recommend strict diets
and lifestyle changes and you don't think you will be
able to follow along with such changes, then that doctor is not
right for you either. So you want to get a fee of what he or
she is all about and see if that is right for you.

2) Ask if you will actually be treated by the doctor or by
a Physicians Assistant.
I was once the patient of a very prominent Dermatology
practice where I think I saw the doctor all of two times.
Pretty much for every visit, I was treated by the PA. When I am
paying doctor prices, I want to get a doctor in return.
Needless to say after a while I switched to a practice where I
was seen by the doctor.
3) Is the doctor going to recommend treatments that are not
covered by health insurance.
Many dermatologists used experimental treatments that are
not covered by most health plans. Ask the doctor if he will be
using any such treatments and if so, how will you be allowed to
pay for them.
4) What kinds of insurance does the doctor accept.
Going to the doctor is one thing, paying for it is another.
You want to make sure that the doctor you chose accepts your
brand of health insurance. When being treated for acne it is
not uncommon to have to visit the doctor on at least a monthly
basis if not more frequently. These expenses can go up rapidly
and if your insurance is not flipping the bill you can be in
for a financial heartache.
5) Ask the doctor if he has an end game.
A path to long lasting clear skin, or if he thinks ongoing
treatment is inevitable. Many dermatologists will have you
going to their office once a month for years on end. Not a bad
living. I think it is important that you find a doctor who
wants to find a way to get rid of your acne once and for all.
Look for a doctor who is focused on the end game so that you
are not a slave to the doctor's care forever.
Choosing a dermatologist can be a difficult decision, but
having the right information can make the difference between a
fruitful doctor patient relationship and one that is
ineffective.
